Hello Yogis:

If you’ve ever had a chance to rock it out on the mat in one of my advanced classes, you know that they can sometimes require a substantial amount of stamina and focus. Many times people ask me what is the best way to recharge after sweating it out in one of my 90-minute power yoga classes and here’s what I tell them:

  1. Don’t eat before – eat after
    • Eating before class can bring a variety of challenges to your practice. I suggest not eating at least two-three hours before class so you can come prepared and ready to engage your bandhas.
  2. Water, water, water
    • My classes can be challenging so make sure to hydrate properly before, and especially after class. I recommend at least 8 bottles of water a day, and even more if you have an especially arduous practice. The level 2/3 classes are great on Tuesday/Thursdays at 8pm.
  3. High protein, low sugar
    • Stick to foods high in protein and low in sugar after practice to maximize your recovery time so you can hit the mat again tomorrow. SweetGreen is just around the corner, pick up your salad on the way home.

Those are my tips, what are yours? Would love to hear from you all in the comments about your post-practice secrets.

Much love,

I always drink ice cold water after a super sweaty practice. It helps to cool off some of the fire I build in class and helps me reset my head space.
